Originally from Scotland, but based in New York since 2004, his experience includes: involvement in the start-up of several companies, taking all of them to maturity in their markets; operational management of companies from the earliest and smallest stage to mature organizations with hundreds of employees; completion of the acquisition and disposal of more than a dozen companies; capital raising, including seed, venture, mezzanine, equity and debt transactions and more than 25 years of managing and leading companies to profitable growth. Mr. Hill is an experienced operating executive and deal maker with 17 years of experience in the media and entertainment industries. Prior to that, he was a publisher of SPIN magazine, where he engineered the turnaround of the 20-year old music and culture title, and spearheaded its eventual sale to a private equity group. Mr. Hill has held executive positions at Marvel Entertainment Group, Digital Convergence Inc. and Advanstar Communications. He co-founded Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel magazine, with partners Donald E. Welsh and Mr. Frommer, which was sold to Newsweek Inc. as the legendary magazine's first magazine acquisition in its history. Mr. Hill is a frequent guest commentator on the media and publishing business, and serves on the adjunct faculty of the Columbia University Journalism School Publishing Course. Mr. Ryan founded Hayfield Capital in 2007. He has broad financial services and operating company experience. Previously, Mr. Ryan was COO at Vision Capital, one of the top-performing hedge funds in the world which specialized in investing in microcap companies. Prior to that, Mr. Ryan was a co-founder of Ulysses Financial, a middle market advisory firm. Mr. Ryan started his career at Barclays Bank/Barclays deZoete Wedd, where his financial analysis skills were honed and he received broad exposure to many industries and financial products. Mr. Ryan was a senior member of Fletcher Asset Management, a leading hedge fund specializing in direct investments into public companies. Over his career, Mr. Ryan has played a leading role in several start-up companies in real estate and high technology. Mr. Monroe is an Investment Banking Senior Associate at Hayfield Capital. Prior to joining Hayfield in 2008, Mr. Monroe was an Associate at Bentley Associates LP, a boutique Investment Bank focusing on lower middle-market Corporate Finance and M&A Advisory. His work as a generalist encompasses an array of different sectors, many times with an energy focus, allowing for proficiency in creating deal materials and handling transactional and client needs. Mr. Monroe began his career in at ABN Amro, N.V. (now RBS/Fortis/Santander) as a Financial Analyst. He graduated with distinction from the University of Wyoming Graduate School of Economics and Finance, where he earned an M.S. Finance.
Mr. Chan joined Hayfield Capital in August 2009. He received his B.A. from Cornell University in Economics and Mathematics. Previous intern experience in the energy sector was gained at a sell-side equity research boutique. Since joining Hayfield, Jack has gained experience as an analyst on numerous projects, and is responsible for production of client material and analysis as an integral part of the corporate finance team.
